Chiropractor Near Stonehedge Wheaton in Wheaton, IL

Board Certified Chiropractic Physician Member, American Chiropractic Association Member, Illinois Chiropractic Society 20+ Years Serving DuPage County

Stonehedge is a central-east Wheaton subdivision close to Naperville Road and the Butterfield Road corridor. It is a well-established neighborhood with mature landscaping, solid single-family homes built in the 1970s and 1980s, and a mix of families and long-time residents who have built their lives here. The neighborhood's central location makes Butterfield Road and I-88 the primary arteries for daily commuting.

Our office at 400 W Liberty Dr is about seven minutes west on Butterfield and then north on Main Street. If your neck tightens at your home desk, if your lower back aches after the drive home, or if a weekend project left you barely able to straighten up, Dr. Carlo has been helping Stonehedge-area patients since 2005. We are close and we can help.

Why Stonehedge Residents Visit Central DuPage Chiropractic

Stonehedge is a neighborhood where people work hard and stay busy. A significant share of residents commute to Chicago or to the western suburban tech and business corridor along I-88. That means sitting in a car on Butterfield Road or I-88 for 30 to 60 minutes each way, day after day. The cumulative toll on the lumbar spine is real.

Remote work has changed things too. Many Stonehedge residents now spend their full day at home desks, kitchen tables, or on laptops in positions that were never designed for eight hours of use. The neck and upper back bear most of the burden of that sustained posture, and the problems that result build quietly over weeks until they are hard to ignore.

The Stonehedge neighborhood is close to several Wheaton park district facilities and local bike paths. Residents who make time for recreation tend to do so in concentrated bursts on weekends, going from a week of desk work to an active Saturday. That sudden shift in physical demand is one of the most common patterns Dr. Carlo sees in patients from this area.

What brings Stonehedge residents through our door most often?

  • Neck stiffness and tension headaches from home office work and sustained screen time
  • Lower back pain and sciatica from commuting on Butterfield Road and I-88
  • Mid-back tension from prolonged sitting in poor ergonomic setups at home desks
  • Lower back strain from weekend yard work or home improvement after sedentary weekdays
  • Hip and knee pain from ramping up outdoor activity after long sedentary stretches
  • Shoulder pain from carrying laptop bags and work equipment daily

The sit-all-week, move-all-weekend cycle is one of the most common injury patterns we see. The good news is that it responds very well to care when addressed directly.

Neck Pain, Back Pain & Sciatica Treatment

Cervical joint restriction from sustained screen posture is one of the most treatable conditions in chiropractic practice. The neck joints lose their normal range of motion, compress nearby nerves, and produce the stiffness and headaches that become the background noise of a desk worker's week. Targeted cervical adjustment restores that motion and relieves the nerve pressure quickly.

Research from the American College of Physicians identifies spinal manipulation as a recommended first-line treatment for acute and chronic low back pain before medication or surgery.1

Commuter-related sciatica follows a specific pattern: sustained lumbar compression during the drive irritates the disc or nerve root, and the pain builds through the week. Flexion-distraction technique is particularly effective for this kind of nerve compression. Many patients notice significant relief within the first few visits.

Weekend injury patients, those who hurt themselves on a Saturday project after sitting all week, usually recover faster than they expect when they come in quickly. The injury is acute, the body responds well, and targeted care gets you back on your feet.

Chiropractic Adjustments & Techniques

A chiropractic adjustment restores proper movement to a spinal joint that has shifted out of alignment. When a joint stops moving correctly, it puts pressure on the surrounding nerves and discs. Correcting the joint removes that pressure and allows the body to begin healing the tissue around it.

Dr. Carlo uses two primary adjustment techniques and selects the one that fits your condition and comfort level:

  • Diversified technique: a precise, hands-on manual adjustment that restores joint motion. The most widely used method in chiropractic practice and the one that produces the familiar audible pop.
  • Flexion-distraction: a slow, rhythmic decompression technique performed on a specialized table. Particularly effective for disc herniations, sciatica, and lumbar stenosis common in desk workers and daily commuters.

Dr. Carlo explains his approach and answers your questions before any treatment begins. Learn more about chiropractic adjustments at our Wheaton office.

What to Expect During Your Care Plan

  1. Visit 1: Full health history review, orthopedic and neurological examination, discussion of findings, and a care plan recommendation. Treatment may begin at this visit if appropriate.
  2. Weeks 1 to 3: Most patients come in 2 to 3 times per week. The goal is to reduce inflammation, restore joint motion, and begin correcting the underlying mechanical problem.
  3. Weeks 4 to 8: Visit frequency typically decreases to once or twice per week as the condition stabilizes. Rehabilitation exercises are introduced to reinforce improvement.
  4. Maintenance: Once the condition is resolved, many patients continue with monthly or bi-monthly visits to keep ahead of the demands that desk work, commuting, and weekend physical activity place on the neck and spine throughout the year.

What Our Patients Are Saying

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to get to your office from Stonehedge?

From the Stonehedge area near Naperville Road and Butterfield, the drive is about seven minutes. Head west on Butterfield Road, turn right on Main Street, then left on Liberty Drive. We are at 400 W Liberty Dr, Suite B on the right. Free parking is available at the building.

I work from home in Stonehedge and sit at a desk all day. My neck and upper back hurt by afternoon. Can chiropractic help?

Yes. Working from home often means sitting in a setup that was not designed for full-day use. Poor monitor height, a kitchen chair, or a laptop on a couch all create sustained forward head posture that compresses the cervical joints over time. Dr. Carlo addresses the joint restrictions that build from this pattern and can recommend simple postural changes that reduce the daily strain. Most patients notice real improvement quickly once the underlying joint mechanics are addressed.

My lower back hurts more when I drive on Butterfield Road. Is this a disc problem?

It might be, but driving-related back pain comes from several sources, including facet joint restriction and sacroiliac joint dysfunction, not just discs. Dr. Carlo performs orthopedic and neurological tests that distinguish between them. Many patients with commuter back pain are not dealing with a disc problem at all and improve quickly with the right care. You do not need imaging before your first visit. The examination tells us what we need to know.

How many visits will I need?

It depends on your condition, how long it has been present, and how your body responds to care. Acute pain from a specific activity often improves significantly within 6 to 8 visits over two to three weeks. Chronic conditions that have been building for months typically require 12 to 20 visits over 8 to 12 weeks. Dr. Carlo gives every patient a specific estimate after the first examination and adjusts the plan as you improve.

Do I need a referral to see a chiropractor in Illinois?

No referral is needed. Call us at (630) 665-7266 or book online at any time. Illinois allows patients to see a chiropractor directly without a physician referral. If Dr. Carlo finds something during your examination that needs evaluation by another specialist, he will let you know and help coordinate the right referral.
