Briarcliffe is an established subdivision in southeast Wheaton, bordered roughly by Roosevelt Road to the south and Naperville Road to the east. The homes here were built mostly in the 1970s and 1980s on generous lots with mature landscaping. It is a quiet, well-kept neighborhood with strong roots and families who have been here for decades.
Our office at 400 W Liberty Dr is about seven minutes north on Naperville Road. Whether your back flared during spring mulching, your sciatica came back after a long drive on Roosevelt, or your neck has been stiff for weeks, we are easy to reach. Dr. Carlo has served Briarcliffe-area residents since 2005.

The homes in Briarcliffe sit on larger lots than newer subdivisions. That means longer driveways, bigger lawns, and more trees dropping leaves in October. Seasonal yard work in this neighborhood is a real physical commitment. Raking, bagging, digging, and hauling are the kinds of repetitive bending and twisting motions that accumulate in the lower back.
Roosevelt Road is the southern corridor that Briarcliffe residents use to reach I-88, downtown Naperville, and Glen Ellyn. It is a well-traveled road with traffic that backs up during rush hour. Long commutes in a car seat that may not support the lumbar curve create sustained disc pressure and contribute to sciatica and lower back stiffness.
Briarcliffe is also close to the Fox Hollow Golf Club and several park district facilities. Golf is a rotational sport that puts significant torque through the lumbar spine and hips. Players who golf three or four times per week through the summer often come in with lower back pain that has gradually worsened over the season.
What brings Briarcliffe residents through our door most often?
Many Briarcliffe patients come in during the spring, after the first big yard work weekend of the year. They are not expecting to be hurting, and they are surprised how fast they can recover with the right care.
Yard work injuries often feel like muscle pulls, but the underlying problem is usually a spinal joint that has shifted out of proper alignment during a sudden bending or twisting motion. When that joint presses on a nearby disc or nerve root, you feel it as deep aching, sharp pain, or the familiar shooting sensation of sciatica down the leg.
Research from the American College of Physicians identifies spinal manipulation as a recommended first-line treatment for acute and chronic low back pain before medication or surgery.1
For golf-related lower back pain, the problem is usually in the lumbar facet joints and the sacroiliac joint, which take the brunt of the rotational load during the swing. Correcting those joints typically produces fast relief and allows a return to the course sooner than most patients expect.
Neck pain from commuting responds well to cervical adjustment combined with soft tissue work. If you are getting headaches that start at the base of the skull, those are often cervicogenic and are directly addressable through chiropractic care.

A chiropractic adjustment restores proper movement to a spinal joint that has shifted out of alignment. When a joint stops moving correctly, it puts pressure on the surrounding nerves and discs. Correcting the joint removes that pressure and allows the body to begin healing the tissue around it.
Dr. Carlo uses two primary adjustment techniques and selects the one that fits your condition and comfort level:

We do our best to see acute injury patients quickly. Call us at (630) 665-7266 and we will find the earliest available opening. Most patients with an acute back strain from yard work see meaningful relief within the first two or three visits. The sooner you come in, the faster recovery tends to go. Waiting rarely helps and often lets the problem settle deeper.
Yes, there can be. Extended sitting in a car compresses the lumbar discs and puts sustained pressure on the sciatic nerve. For many people, the driving position is what converts a low-grade disc issue into a full sciatica flare. Dr. Carlo evaluates the underlying disc and joint mechanics and addresses them directly rather than just treating the symptoms. Many patients see significant reduction in sciatica frequency within a few weeks of starting care.
It depends on your condition, how long it has been present, and how your body responds to care. Acute pain from a specific activity often improves significantly within 6 to 8 visits over two to three weeks. Chronic conditions that have been building for months typically require 12 to 20 visits over 8 to 12 weeks. Dr. Carlo gives every patient a specific estimate after the first examination and adjusts the plan as you improve.
No referral is needed. Call us at (630) 665-7266 or book online at any time. Illinois allows patients to see a chiropractor directly without a physician referral. If Dr. Carlo finds something during your examination that needs evaluation by another specialist, he will let you know and help coordinate the right referral.
