Chiropractor Near Maryknoll in Glen Ellyn, IL

Board Certified Chiropractic Physician Member, American Chiropractic Association Member, Illinois Chiropractic Society 20+ Years Serving DuPage County

Maryknoll is a family-oriented neighborhood in the north end of Glen Ellyn, near the Bloomingdale border. Maryknoll Park is the center of gravity here, hosting youth soccer, baseball, and open field play throughout the warmer months. Spring Lake Park is nearby, adding more green space to an already active area. Families here are busy, and their bodies show it.

Our office at 400 W Liberty Dr in Wheaton is about 13 minutes south and west of the Maryknoll neighborhood. We treat youth athletes, working parents, and longtime residents who need more than rest to get better. Dr. Carlo has been helping DuPage County families stay active and pain-free since 2005.

Why Maryknoll Residents Visit Central DuPage Chiropractic

Maryknoll is a classic Glen Ellyn family neighborhood. The houses here are from the 1960s through the 1980s, with yards big enough for backyard games and garages full of gear. Weekends revolve around youth sports, and weekdays mean commutes, desk jobs, and school runs. It is a full-schedule lifestyle that does not leave much room for recovery.

We see a lot of youth athletes from this part of Glen Ellyn. Travel soccer, baseball, and lacrosse players who are pushing hard through their seasons sometimes develop back or hip pain that does not go away between games. Young spines respond well to chiropractic care, and catching problems early prevents them from becoming chronic.

We also see a lot of parents. The adults who spend their weekends at the park carrying equipment, standing on sidelines, and lifting kids in and out of cars often end up with lower back pain that builds quietly through the fall sports season. By November, they are ready to do something about it.

What brings Maryknoll residents to us most often?

  • Lower back pain in youth athletes from soccer and baseball at Maryknoll Park
  • Hip flexor and groin strains in young runners and kickers
  • Shoulder and elbow strain in young baseball and softball pitchers
  • Parent lower back pain from sideline duty and equipment hauling
  • Neck pain and headaches from commuting and home office work
  • Sciatica flare-ups from prolonged sitting at a desk or in the car

Families in Maryknoll want to stay in the game, literally and figuratively. We help them do that.

Back Pain & Sports Injury Treatment

Youth athletes often develop back pain from repetitive motion in one direction. Soccer involves a lot of kicking with one dominant leg. Baseball pitching loads the shoulder and thoracic spine on one side. Over a full season, these asymmetric demands can shift joints out of position and create pain that shows up during or after games.

Research from the American College of Physicians identifies spinal manipulation as a recommended first-line treatment for acute and chronic low back pain before medication or surgery.1 That applies to young athletes just as it does to adults.

For parents dealing with lower back pain from an active family lifestyle, the pattern is usually the same: cumulative joint restriction from sitting, lifting, and doing too much without any recovery. A targeted care plan addresses the restriction directly and usually brings relief faster than physical therapy or waiting it out.

Dr. Carlo gives you a clear picture of what is happening and a realistic timeline at the very first visit. No guesswork. Learn more about our back pain treatment, sports injury care, and sciatica treatment.

Chiropractic Adjustments & Techniques

A chiropractic adjustment restores proper movement to a spinal joint that has shifted out of alignment. When a joint stops moving correctly, it puts pressure on the surrounding nerves and discs. Correcting the joint removes that pressure and allows the body to begin healing the tissue around it.

Dr. Carlo uses two primary adjustment techniques and selects the one that fits your condition and comfort level:

  • Diversified technique: a precise, hands-on manual adjustment that restores joint motion. The most widely used method in chiropractic practice and the one that produces the familiar audible pop.
  • Flexion-distraction: a slow, rhythmic decompression technique performed on a specialized table. Particularly effective for disc problems, hip pain, and sciatica in patients of all ages.

Dr. Carlo explains his approach and answers your questions before any treatment begins. Learn more about chiropractic adjustments at our Wheaton office.

What to Expect During Your Care Plan

  1. Visit 1: Full health history review, orthopedic and neurological examination, discussion of findings, and a care plan recommendation. Treatment may begin at this visit if appropriate.
  2. Weeks 1 to 3: Most patients come in 2 to 3 times per week. The goal is to reduce inflammation, restore joint motion, and begin correcting the underlying mechanical problem.
  3. Weeks 4 to 8: Visit frequency typically decreases to once or twice per week as the condition stabilizes. Rehabilitation exercises are introduced to reinforce improvement.
  4. Maintenance: Once the condition is resolved, many youth athletes and active parents continue with periodic visits to stay ahead of the demands that sports seasons and family life put on the spine year-round.

What Our Patients Are Saying

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get to your Wheaton office from Maryknoll in Glen Ellyn?

Head south to Roosevelt Road and turn west. Continue into Wheaton, turn right on Main Street, then left on Liberty Drive to 400 W Liberty Dr, Suite B. The drive is about 13 minutes. If Roosevelt and Main Street is slow in the afternoon, turn left on Lorraine Road before the intersection and cut over to Liberty Drive from the north. Free parking at the building, no time limits.

My child plays youth soccer at Maryknoll Park and has had back pain for several weeks. Should I bring them in?

Yes. Back pain in a young athlete that does not clear up on its own after a week or two deserves a look. Growing bodies can develop joint restrictions from the repetitive demands of a sport, and those restrictions respond very well to chiropractic care. Dr. Carlo has experience with youth athletes and will give you a clear explanation of what he finds at the first visit. Getting ahead of it early prevents a longer problem later in the season.

I spend most weekends at my kids' soccer and baseball games at Maryknoll Park. My lower back has been a constant problem. What can you do?

That story is very familiar in our office. Parents who stand on sidelines, carry gear, and haul equipment across uneven fields for a full season develop lower back pain that compounds over time. Chiropractic care addresses the underlying joint restrictions driving that pattern. Most parents in this situation start feeling noticeably better within the first two weeks of care. You should not have to hurt through the whole sports season.

How many visits will I need?

It depends on your condition, how long it has been present, and how your body responds to care. Acute pain from a specific activity often improves significantly within 6 to 8 visits over two to three weeks. Chronic conditions that have been building for months typically require 12 to 20 visits over 8 to 12 weeks. Dr. Carlo gives every patient a specific estimate after the first examination and adjusts the plan as you improve.

Do I need a referral to see a chiropractor in Illinois?

No referral is needed. Call us at (630) 665-7266 or book online at any time. Illinois allows patients to see a chiropractor directly without a physician referral. If Dr. Carlo finds something during your examination that needs evaluation by another specialist, he will let you know and help coordinate the right referral.
