Chiropractor Near Forest Glen in Glen Ellyn, IL

Board Certified Chiropractic Physician Member, American Chiropractic Association Member, Illinois Chiropractic Society 20+ Years Serving DuPage County

Forest Glen is a wooded, established neighborhood in the southeast part of Glen Ellyn. The homes here were mostly built in the 1950s through the 1970s, set on generous lots with mature trees and long driveways. It is a quiet, beautiful area. It is also one that puts real physical demands on the people who live there.

Our office at 400 W Liberty Dr in Wheaton is about 15 minutes west of Forest Glen on Roosevelt Road. Glenbard South High School serves many Forest Glen families, and we see both the students and their parents. If you have been dealing with back pain from yard work, a stiff neck from commuting, or a sports injury that is not healing on its own, give us a call.

Why Forest Glen Residents Visit Central DuPage Chiropractic

The homes in Forest Glen are surrounded by mature oaks, maples, and elms. That means fall leaf season is serious business here. Raking, hauling, blowing, and bagging for several weekends straight is a reliable recipe for lower back pain. We see a wave of Forest Glen patients every October and November for exactly this reason.

Beyond yard work, these are homes that need regular maintenance. Gutters on two-story houses, driveway repairs, basement projects, and all the bending, lifting, and carrying that goes along with owning a 60-year-old home. The physical demands are real, and they add up quietly until something gives out.

Glenbard South draws a steady stream of student athletes in soccer, cross-country, basketball, and track. Young athletes from this neighborhood sometimes develop back or hip pain during their sports seasons that gets dismissed as growing pains. It usually is not. Chiropractic care can identify and address the real cause.

What brings Forest Glen residents to us most often?

  • Lower back pain from fall yard work and leaf cleanup on large wooded lots
  • Hip and lower back strain from home maintenance and bending work
  • Neck stiffness and headaches from commuting and long desk hours
  • Sports injuries in Glenbard South athletes: back pain, hip pain, hamstring strains
  • Sciatica that develops after a weekend of heavy lifting or raking
  • Mid-back pain from sustained sitting at home offices or in the car

Forest Glen residents tend to be independent. They handle things themselves. But there are some things you cannot fix by toughing it out, and chronic back pain is one of them.

Back Pain, Neck Pain & Sciatica Treatment

Raking and hauling leaves puts the lumbar spine in sustained forward flexion for hours at a time. This creates cumulative stress on the lumbar discs and facet joints that often does not produce pain until the day after or a week later. By then, the inflammation has set in and rest alone may not resolve it.

Spinal manipulation directly addresses the joint restrictions that drive this type of back pain. Research from the American College of Physicians identifies spinal manipulation as a recommended first-line treatment for acute and chronic low back pain before medication or surgery.1

For neck pain from commuting and desk work, the thoracic and cervical spine often share the problem. Addressing both together produces better results than treating just the area that hurts. Many Forest Glen patients come in describing headaches they have had for months that resolve once the cervical joints are corrected.

Chiropractic Adjustments & Techniques

A chiropractic adjustment restores proper movement to a spinal joint that has shifted out of alignment. When a joint stops moving correctly, it puts pressure on the surrounding nerves and discs. Correcting the joint removes that pressure and allows the body to begin healing the tissue around it.

Dr. Carlo uses two primary adjustment techniques and selects the one that fits your condition and comfort level:

  • Diversified technique: a precise, hands-on manual adjustment that restores joint motion. The most widely used method in chiropractic practice and the one that produces the familiar audible pop.
  • Flexion-distraction: a slow, rhythmic decompression technique performed on a specialized table. Particularly effective for disc herniations, sciatica, and lumbar pain that develops from sustained bending and heavy lifting.

Dr. Carlo explains his approach and answers your questions before any treatment begins. Learn more about chiropractic adjustments at our Wheaton office.

What to Expect During Your Care Plan

  1. Visit 1: Full health history review, orthopedic and neurological examination, discussion of findings, and a care plan recommendation. Treatment may begin at this visit if appropriate.
  2. Weeks 1 to 3: Most patients come in 2 to 3 times per week. The goal is to reduce inflammation, restore joint motion, and begin correcting the underlying mechanical problem.
  3. Weeks 4 to 8: Visit frequency typically decreases to once or twice per week as the condition stabilizes. Rehabilitation exercises are introduced to reinforce improvement.
  4. Maintenance: Once the condition is resolved, many patients continue with periodic visits through the year to stay ahead of the yard work season and the demands of maintaining a large home in Forest Glen.

What Our Patients Are Saying

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get to your Wheaton office from the Forest Glen neighborhood?

Take Roosevelt Road west from Forest Glen, continue into Wheaton, turn right on Main Street, then left on Liberty Drive to 400 W Liberty Dr, Suite B. About 15 minutes. If the Main Street light is backed up on Roosevelt during rush hour, turn north on Lorraine Road before the intersection and approach Liberty Drive from the north. Free parking at our building, no time limits.

My back goes out every fall from raking and hauling leaves off my Forest Glen lot. Is there a real fix for this?

Yes. The problem is that sustained raking and hauling in a forward-bent posture creates cumulative joint restriction in the lower back that rest alone does not fully correct. You feel better after a week, then it happens again next fall. Chiropractic care addresses the restriction directly. Coming in after an episode is the short-term fix. Periodic maintenance care through the year means you are less likely to get hit the same way next October.

My teenager plays sports at Glenbard South and has had hip pain for the past month. Should I bring them to a chiropractor?

Yes. Hip pain that persists through a sports season in a young athlete should not be ignored. It is often caused by a restricted sacroiliac or lumbar joint that is changing how they move, not an injury to the hip itself. Dr. Carlo evaluates young athletes thoroughly and gives you a clear explanation at the first visit. Chiropractic care is safe and drug-free, and most young patients respond quickly.

How many visits will I need?

It depends on your condition, how long it has been present, and how your body responds to care. Acute pain from a specific activity often improves significantly within 6 to 8 visits over two to three weeks. Chronic conditions that have been building for months typically require 12 to 20 visits over 8 to 12 weeks. Dr. Carlo gives every patient a specific estimate after the first examination and adjusts the plan as you improve.

Do I need a referral to see a chiropractor in Illinois?

No referral is needed. Call us at (630) 665-7266 or book online at any time. Illinois allows patients to see a chiropractor directly without a physician referral. If Dr. Carlo finds something during your examination that needs evaluation by another specialist, he will let you know and help coordinate the right referral.
