Why Churchill Residents Visit Central DuPage Chiropractic

Churchill sits right on the boundary between Glen Ellyn and Wheaton, which means residents here often travel both directions for work, school, and errands. That also means a lot of time in the car. Roosevelt Road is a busy corridor at commute hours, and the combination of driving and desk work creates the exact conditions for chronic neck and upper back problems.

The Churchill Forest Preserve area draws local runners and walkers who want to get off the pavement. Trail running and hiking on uneven ground puts different demands on the spine compared to road running. The lateral forces from uneven footing challenge the lumbar and pelvic joints in ways that can expose underlying weaknesses.

Glenbard West is one of the top high schools in DuPage County for athletics. Cross-country, track, football, and soccer players from this area are serious competitors. They train hard and sometimes show up with back and hip problems that need real attention, not just rest.

What brings Churchill area residents to us most often?

  • Lower back pain from trail running near the Churchill Forest Preserve area
  • Neck pain and headaches from daily commuting on Roosevelt Road and I-88
  • Sciatica from prolonged sitting in the car or at a desk
  • Sports injuries in Glenbard West athletes: back, hip, and hamstring
  • Mid-back tension from desk work and home office posture
  • Hip and knee pain from running on pavement and uneven trail surfaces

The Churchill neighborhood is full of people who stay busy and push through discomfort. That approach works until it does not. When pain stops responding to rest, chiropractic care is often the fastest path forward.

Back Pain, Neck Pain & Sciatica Treatment

Roosevelt Road commuters in the Churchill area deal with stop-and-go traffic that keeps the cervical spine in a sustained flexed position for extended periods. Add in hours of desk work and the cumulative load on the neck and upper back becomes significant. Headaches, shoulder tension, and arm tingling are the typical results.

Trail running and outdoor activity add lower back and hip demands on top of that. The combination of sitting all day and then running or hiking in the evenings is hard on spinal joints that never fully recover between demands.

Research from the American College of Physicians identifies spinal manipulation as a recommended first-line treatment for acute and chronic low back pain before medication or surgery.1 Dr. Carlo addresses both the immediate pain and the underlying restrictions driving it. Chiropractic Adjustments & Techniques

A chiropractic adjustment restores proper movement to a spinal joint that has shifted out of alignment. When a joint stops moving correctly, it puts pressure on the surrounding nerves and discs. Correcting the joint removes that pressure and allows the body to begin healing the tissue around it.

Dr. Carlo uses two primary adjustment techniques and selects the one that fits your condition and comfort level:

  • Diversified technique: a precise, hands-on manual adjustment that restores joint motion. The most widely used method in chiropractic practice and the one that produces the familiar audible pop.
  • Flexion-distraction: a slow, rhythmic decompression technique performed on a specialized table. Particularly effective for disc herniations, sciatica, and lumbar stenosis common in commuters and trail runners.

Dr. Carlo explains his approach and answers your questions before any treatment begins. Learn more about chiropractic adjustments at our Wheaton office.

What to Expect During Your Care Plan

  1. Visit 1: Full health history review, orthopedic and neurological examination, discussion of findings, and a care plan recommendation. Treatment may begin at this visit if appropriate.
  2. Weeks 1 to 3: Most patients come in 2 to 3 times per week. The goal is to reduce inflammation, restore joint motion, and begin correcting the underlying mechanical problem.
  3. Weeks 4 to 8: Visit frequency typically decreases to once or twice per week as the condition stabilizes. Rehabilitation exercises are introduced to reinforce improvement.
  4. Maintenance: Once the condition is resolved, many patients continue with periodic visits to stay ahead of what commuting, trail running, and an active Churchill lifestyle puts on the spine year-round.

What Our Patients Are Saying

Frequently Asked Questions

How far is your Wheaton office from Churchill in Glen Ellyn?

About 12 minutes west on Roosevelt Road. Turn right on Main Street Wheaton, then left on Liberty Drive to 400 W Liberty Dr, Suite B. If Roosevelt and Main Street is backed up westbound in the afternoon, take Naperville Road north and then left on Liberty Drive. Free parking at the building, no time limits.

I run trails near the Churchill Forest Preserve area regularly and my lower back tightens up after long runs. What is going on?

Trail running on uneven surfaces challenges the lumbar and pelvic joints in ways flat road running does not. Lateral forces from uneven footing can expose restricted joints that were manageable on pavement. When those joints are already limited in motion, the surrounding muscles compensate and tighten up after a run. Chiropractic care identifies and corrects the restricted joints so your spine distributes the load more evenly. Most runners see improvement within the first few visits.

My teenager runs cross-country at Glenbard West and has had lower back pain through the whole season. Should I bring them in?

Yes. Back pain that persists through a running season is a clear sign that something mechanical is not right. Young cross-country runners often develop sacroiliac joint or lumbar restrictions from high mileage that do not resolve with rest alone. Dr. Carlo evaluates young athletes carefully, gives you a clear diagnosis, and creates a plan that keeps them running as much as safely possible while they recover.

How many visits will I need?

It depends on your condition, how long it has been present, and how your body responds to care. Acute pain from a specific activity often improves significantly within 6 to 8 visits over two to three weeks. Chronic conditions that have been building for months typically require 12 to 20 visits over 8 to 12 weeks. Dr. Carlo gives every patient a specific estimate after the first examination and adjusts the plan as you improve.

Do I need a referral to see a chiropractor in Illinois?

No referral is needed. Call us at (630) 665-7266 or book online at any time. Illinois allows patients to see a chiropractor directly without a physician referral. If Dr. Carlo finds something during your examination that needs evaluation by another specialist, he will let you know and help coordinate the right referral.
